Paid Market Research FAQs

How do I get started?

Register online today — simply register through our website. All you need is your email to get started. You can include your dependent children too if they want to participate. A lot of businesses need feedback from younger consumers!

Can anyone participate?

Yes, of course! Anyone can register. Then, you’ll be invited to participate in paid surveys, focus groups, and other opportunities based on your consumer profile.

How much of my time will it take to participate?

Most paid market research jobs take from one to two hours, although they can range from 30 minutes to three hours. In general, standard questionnaire surveys take between 5 to 20 minutes to complete, whilst focus groups can last an hour or more.

What should I do to get ready for a focus group session?

All you have to do is show up, ready to participate! Please arrive at least 10 minutes early to the session. Unfortunately, if you’re not there on time, you may not be admitted, which means you won’t receive any payment for your time.

What do I do when I participate in a focus group or survey?

For a focus group or market research discussion, either you’ll attend a location or you’ll participate online via Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or another platform. For an online survey, you’ll answer multiple questions and questions that involve personal comments, or both.

What role does Farron Research have in market research?

We recruit participants to take part in surveys and sessions, and we have a dedicated team of specialists who focus on building relationships with individuals and businesses across Australia for the purpose of market research. Farron is ISO20252 certified and a corporate member of AMSRO (Association of Market and Social Research Organisations) and The Research Society.

Where do market research studies take place?

Some are online video sessions, while others take place in-person. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re using online video so sessions can take place in the comfort of your home.

Outside of the pandemic, we coordinate convenient venues in major cities close to public transport and ample parking. On occasion, a session will take place in smaller cities.

Why haven’t I been asked to participate in a while?

If we haven’t contacted you recently, it’s usually because your profile hasn’t matched the selection criteria for recent research projects. We suggest that you update as many details as possible in your profile so we can send you as many surveys as possible. If you recently participated in a focus group, you’re only eligible for another group forum once six months have passed.

I won’t be able to participate — what should I do?

No worries! We know things come up. Simply let us know as soon as possible. You can do this by signing into your profile and unsubscribing, calling 1300 787 417, or emailing us.

What if I don’t know a lot about the product or service?

Not a problem. In fact, the aim of market research is to gather honest feedback. Businesses are only looking for your genuine opinion based on exposure to a particular product or service.

Once I register, what happens next?

When you register, you become a part of our database. Our industry-leading software will determine which market research opportunities may be right for you.

As soon as there’s a paid survey or another consumer study that you’re a good fit for, we’ll contact you, usually by phone, and ask a few questions to ensure your profile works well for that particular study’s needs.

Once we double-check that you meet all the criteria, you’ll be invited to participate. This may involve a focus group discussion, filling out a survey, or another action. We’ll let you know the details, including the date, time, and payment.

You’re never obligated to participate — just let us know if you’d like to commit to the session or pass and wait for the next opportunity. For sessions, we’ll always email you 24 hours ahead of time to confirm that you’ll be there.

How do I make changes to my profile?

Updating your profile is easy — you can log into your profile online using your username and password, or contact us and we’ll do it for you. Any time there’s a change, such as new contact details or if your employment status has changed, let us know so we can continue matching you with the most relevant paying surveys. Updating your details will increase your chances of being invited to participate in market research sessions and paid online surveys.

What types of research can I participate in?

We have a variety of paid market research sessions available, so you may be invited to different ones at different times. They include focus groups, one-on-one discussions, video calls, questionnaires over the phone, mystery shopping, trialling an existing or new product, watching a television pilot, previewing a movie, tasting tests, an in-home study, or an online survey. One thing we can assure you with every activity is that they’re all fun — the organisations conducting the research always make efforts to create a positive experience for participants.

When is market research conducted?

The time varies — it can be daytime, evening, or weekends. Often, it’s conducted at a time that’s convenient for everyone. We’ll always let you know the estimated time frame and the start time so you have that information before you commit to participating.

Who can register for paid surveys in Australia?

Anyone between the ages of 5 and 85. Participants should have good written and oral communication skills and enjoy being creative and having fun.

Will I be asked to make a purchase or pay to participate?

Absolutely not! You’re providing a valuable service and will be compensated for your time. You’ll never have to make a payment or buy anything.

Will my privacy be protected, and will my personal information be kept confidential?

Most definitely — we’ll never give your personal data to outside parties without your permission. Your privacy and personal data are protected in accordance with the National Privacy Principles contained in the Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988 (Act No. 119 as amended), and the Market and Social Research Privacy Code. Please read our Privacy Policy to learn more.
